I'm Caeli - a lifestyle family, newborn and portrait photographer based in Wayland, MA.
My goal is to create images that help you celebrate and cherish the joy and connectedness of your family.
When families reach out about Fresh 48 newborn photos, the questions tend to be very similar. It’s not that parents are unsure if they want these images. They simply want to understand how it actually works inside a real hospital setting.
After photographing many Fresh 48 sessions in Boston hospitals, including Newton-Wellesley, I have learned that what parents want most is reassurance. They want to know the experience will feel calm, respectful, and uncomplicated during an already full and emotional time.
A Fresh 48 session happens during those first couple of days after your baby is born, while you are still in the hospital. It is quiet, low-pressure. There is no set agenda. There is simply space to document the beginning of your life with your new little baby.
Here is how a Fresh 48 session at Newton-Wellesley Hospital typically unfolds.
Fresh 48 sessions are scheduled with flexibility built in. When you go into labor, either you or your partner will send me a quick message as a heads-up. There is no pressure to confirm anything at that point, it simply lets me know that baby is on their way.
Once your baby is born and you have been settled into your recovery room on the postpartum floor at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, we reconnect. We choose a time for your Fresh 48 newborn photos, usually later that day or the following day.
I typically recommend scheduling for earlier in the afternoon when the natural light is best. However, the final timing is always based on how you are feeling. This process allows you to focus on your baby, not a clock.
I work entirely with the available light in your hospital room. This means I will open the blinds or curtains to let in as much natural light as possible. I may ask to move the baby’s bassinet closer to the window or I might suggest that parents relax in a chair near the window.
I do not handle or reposition your baby at all. Instead, I photograph them exactly where they are, most often in your arms or resting nearby. My role is to observe and document, not to direct.
I might spend a minute clearing off a bedside table, moving a water bottle, or unplugging a phone charger. This is never something you need to prepare for! Hospital rooms are not glamorous, and they do not need to be. The honesty of the environment is part of what makes Fresh 48 newborn photos so meaningful.

Fresh 48 newborn photography focuses on the small, fleeting details and the quiet bonding that happens naturally in those first hours.
During your session, I focus on:

If siblings or grandparents are present, I gently include them as well. I will keep things simple and relaxed while following the energy of the room.
They usually are, and that is completely normal!
At Newton-Wellesley Hospital, nurses and doctors naturally come in and out throughout the day. When medical care takes priority, I simply pause and step back. These interruptions are expected and are part of what makes this time real.
Fresh 48 sessions are intentionally unstructured. Babies need to eat. Parents need breaks. I pause when needed and pick back up when it feels right, making sure everything is documented without rushing.
Most Fresh 48 sessions last about 30–45 minutes. This allows for a full story to be documented while still respecting your recovery and energy level.

If you are planning to give birth at Newton-Wellesley Hospital or another Boston-area hospital and are considering Fresh 48 newborn photos, I would love to talk with you about next steps. These sessions are designed to be calm, respectful, and flexible so you can focus on your baby while I document the start of your life with your newest family member.
