Boston Area Personality Portraits

You mean your kid isn’t perfectly behaved all the time? I have two young kids, and have photographed literally thousands of kids of all different temperaments and personalities. Believe me, I do not expect a perfectly poised and behaved child and I will make sure there is space for your child to be who they are.

If you are worried about your kiddo feeling shy or anxious, talking about and preparing them for what to expect is always helpful. You can show them pictures of me and tell them your friend is going to take a few photographs and it’ll be fun and fast!

If you are specifically concerned about the amount of time your child has to acclimate, you can also purchase two sessions - back to back to allow for more flexibility.

What if my child is uncooperative during the session?

I do my best to create a friendly, low-key and fun atmosphere. I chat with the kids, ask questions, show them my camera, act like a goof and quite simply make a fool out of myself! Oh, and did I mention I have a fart machine? 

If at all possible, I will ask that the parent steps aside and is not in the eyeline of your child so they are able to fully focus on me.

How exactly do you make kids feel comfortable in front of the camera?

These are Personality Portraits after all, so my recommendation would be to let your child pick what they wear to really showcase their personality! The photographs will be in black and white so you don’t have to worry about clashing colors, but still important to avoid clothing with images, logos or anything too distracting.

With that being said, I have found with my own daughters that giving them two or three options to pick from, when I want to have some control over what they wear, normally gives them the sense of control they seek, while still ensuring the aesthetic I’m after. 

what should my child wear?

I have photographed children of all ages, but for Personality Portraits, I recommend your child is at least 6 months old and able to sit independently. Kids of all ages are welcome - kudos to those of you who are able to get your teenagers to come! 

how old does my child have to be?

Personality Portraits by Caeli Richter Photography capture the unique personality of each child. I spend time with each child to make sure they are comfortable in front of the camera, and to learn what makes them smile and share their personality. I use a plain white background and all and photographs to really let the child's personality be the main focus. By not forcing smiles or poses, this allows for spontaneous moments and natural expressions.

Frequently asked questions

If you are bringing more than one child, please book a consecutive time slot for each of your kids. I will photograph each one of them individually and will photograph them together as well! There is no additional cost for the siblings to be photographed together. 

Can I have all my children photographed in one time slot?

These sessions are quick - only 5 minutes! I know that even that long is pushing it for some kids, but I work quickly and have lots of tricks up my sleeve to ensure your child is comfortable opening up to me. 

how long does this take?

Included with your session is a minimum of 5 high-resolution images that will be delivered to you within a week. From these, you choose the three you want that are included in your session fee.

You will have the opportunity to upgrade and purchase the entire gallery, and you are also able to order physical prints from my professional print lab.
